Automated small parts warehouse for Korrodin

Automated small parts warehouse for Korrodin

Nuremberg, 18 August 2026 – Korrodin GmbH & Co. KG is investing in the expansion of its logistics operations and is constructing a new distribution centre in Altdorf near Nuremberg. The heart of the facility is a three-aisle automated small-parts warehouse with ten workstations, which is being built by Klinkhammer Intralogistics. With this new facility, the certified wholesaler of high-quality screws and fastening technology is responding to its continuously expanding product range and increasing demands on efficiency, delivery capability and process quality.

An automated small-parts warehouse with 40,000 storage locations and a manual pallet warehouse with a capacity of around 4,000 pallets are being built on approximately 3,800 square metres of logistics space. Following a concept and planning phase, Klinkhammer was given the contract for the automated intralogistics solution. Korrodin supplies customers in the industrial, automotive, aerospace and medical technology sectors and currently stocks more than 90,000 items. The existing automated small-parts warehouse at the company’s former site in Nuremberg had reached its capacity limits. The new facility in Altdorf is intended to optimise material flows, provide additional storage capacity and lay the foundations for further business growth.

As early as the concept phase, Klinkhammer worked with Korrodin, the logistics staff, specialist planners and architects to develop a future-proof logistics concept. In addition to evaluating various property and site options, the focus was on material flow, process workflows and the ergonomic design of the workstations.

From a technical perspective, the new small parts warehouse is designed to meet the specific requirements of the fastening specialist. As a significant proportion of the items are heavy, the system is designed to accommodate containers weighing up to 50 kilograms. Three different height categories for containers and shelves also allow for the flexible storage of products of varying sizes and improve the utilisation of storage space.

Another key focus is on order picking. Ten ergonomically designed workstations, linked by conveyor systems, each feature four buffer stations and an integrated weight and height check to prevent picking errors. In addition, packaging tasks such as the creation of small packages containing exact quantities are carried out at the workstations. For sensitive products, a dust-free order-picking workstation is also set up under clean-room-like conditions. In this way, Korrodin meets the quality requirements of customers in specific industrial sectors.

With this investment, Korrodin aims to significantly increase storage capacity, ergonomics and throughput, further improve process reliability and gear its logistics operations towards future growth.

“Our customers expect the highest levels of precision and reliability. The new logistics centre combines high performance with maximum process reliability, whilst at the same time creating optimal working conditions for our staff,” explains Karl-Heinz Gerlach, Managing Shareholder of Korrodin GmbH Co. KG.
